The aesthetic of Tamegroute contempory and ancient ceramic is rough and unfinished, with often such obvious flaws as cracks, pits, and glaze crawling.

Defects have been embraced and incorporated into the aesthetic of this ancestral craft. The real connection with the past is the very colour of the glaze, the special green.

What to expect

In the village of Tamegroute, embark on a transformative workshop and uncover the rich history and unique traditions of Moroccan ceramics. Visit the potter's village to witness time-honoured techniques, passed down through generations, using locally sourced natural materials. Explore the distinctive glazing process and observe the firing in one of the seven antique kilns, dating back to the 17th century and still owned by the families who produce all of Tamegroute's pottery. With expert guidance, you'll have the opportunity to create your own pieces, glazing them in traditional green or ochre hues, and wood fire them.

In essence, this workshop transcends a mere artistic endeavour; it's an immersive cultural exchange, fostering a profound appreciation for the region's heritage through the lens of an ancient craft. By embracing a slower rhythm, engaging with the local community and its traditions, and connecting with the delicate oasis environment, you'll cultivate a sense of authenticity and harmony. Moreover, your participation directly empowers this artist’s project, the potters as well as the village, ensuring fair compensation for their invaluable work and helping preserving this precious legacy for generations to come.
